Colin Hall has given me the following information to post on the message board.

"In the weeks before his death Phil had fallen a couple of times but Pat had managed to pick him up and sit him in his chair. On the morning he died (Friday 28th August) she woke up at 5.45 and found him lying near the bedroom, already dead.

I am a member of a military postal history society called the Universal Ship Cancellation Society. In the course of researching an article on the US Navy's role in the Berlin Air Lift, I discovered that the RAF made a huge contribution to the success of that humanitarian effort. It is my plan to illustrate the article with photocopies of what we collectors of postal history call covers. These are simply postcards and envelopes. In this case the postmarks on these covers would have to fall between ...

As you may be aware, the 60th Anniversary of the Berin Airlift took place very recently. John Donnelly has sent a letter to the MOD expressing his embarassment, disappointment and anger felt by himself and many others at the lack of a high profile by the UK and particularly the Royal Air Force at these ceremonies. The sentiments expressed have the full support of every person, RAF or civilian, to whom he has spoken both during and since the event.

I am extremely sad to inform you that Nigel Bradshaw passed away on Saturday 28th June. I only heard the news this evening but I know a lot of you will have known, worked with and obviously liked Nigel and will want to know. He was the one who mentored me when I first arrived on D Watch in Berlin in 1981 and we soon became good friends. He will be sadly missed.

I have just finished reading a book about Berlin which I can recommend to fellow Gatow Old Boys. The book is called "The Berlin Wall" written by Frederick Taylor and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. I read the paperback version which came out last year (@ £8.99). It's a well written, comprehensive history of the wall and the events surrounding it. I found it difficult to put down once started.
